Large-scale use of polyurethane foams was greatly accelerated by the discovery and use of CFCs (R-11), HCFCs (141-b) and Hydrocarbons (cyclopentane), as a blowing agent led to the production of closed cell rigid foam with low densities, good mechanical properties and extremely low k-factor.
